For those with pitch-recognition problems, there is a visual approach to CW
netting that is useful if your radio is already connected to the input of
your computer soundcard.
First, start a PSK31 program such as DigiPan or MixW or any of several
others that feature a waterfall display. Or, the SpectroGram program can be
used in either waterfall or spectral-plot mode.
Position a marker over the desired CW pitch/offset frequency, which Adam
explained are the same with the PRO series with their tracking sidetone
feature.
Next, tune the received signal until its beatnote trace on the display lies
under the CW offset-frequency marker. I find that a very fast waterfall
speed is helpful in this regard.
Your transmitted signal will be as close to the received signal as you have
centered it under the marker.
It is arguable whether such accuracy is really required, but since the
PRO's allow 50 Hz filters to be used, and since these are centered in
baseband on the CW offset frequency, sometimes it is critical to have the
received signal centered as closely as possible.
Personally I have found after many years of copying CW at 700 Hz that I
more or less automatically tune a received signal to that beatnote. If I
want to double check and do not have a waterfall program running, I just
switch in a 50 Hz filter and tune until the signal is centered in that
passband.
As Adam points out, "very clever radio." <:}
