Just a quick thought - you mentioned changing antennas to see if that
was the problem. Were you still using the same mount?
I had a similar problem with a mobile HF rig a couple of years back and
I tried a different antenna with no change. Then for some reason, I
tried a different type of mount and discovered it cured the problem! It
turns out the orginal mount (a trunk lip mount) wasn't making a good
enough ground connection, and would vary the signal strength when the
vehicle was in motion.
