Randy,
To save you and others from the same headache I experienced with my
MKIIG, I post this on the reflector instead replying to you direct. I DO
NOT have the answers to your question as asked BUT be aware that the
IC-706MKIIG DOES NOT work on PACTOR as out of the box. As soon as you try
to connect in the PACTOR mode, nothing happens. The radio just sits there
and calls, but no connect. In order to remedy the problem the radio has
to go back to ICOM for, and I quote ICOM, a " PACTOR II " modification.
The info I received from ICOM stated that this modification MIGHT be done
FREE OF CHARGE to the original owner. I cannot vouch for this at this
time since I have not received my MKIIG back from ICOM. I am definitely
out of the shipping charges to ICOM and possibly have to absorb the
return shipping charges also. I have no idea why this mod is necessary in
the first place. Earlier 706'es do not need this mod and work fine. Just
the G model is affected. ICOM is very secretive about it and in my view
just covers up some kind of engineering screw up. Hope this helps you and
others.
