If you have, or can borrow, a leather punch, you could punch
a hole over the set-screw and glue 'er on!

On a new rig, it's just the elasticity and tension of the
rubber grip.
After a few years, I think what holds it is oil from the
fingers, and dirt
that has worked its way under the front edge. I recently
bought an Icom 765
and removed the rubber grip and cleaned it with soap and
water. Since then,
it comes off easily. I'm thinking about using 3 or 4 small
dots of
old-fashioned rubber cement spaced around the outside edge.
Any more than
that and it would probably never come off again. If they
had only put a
hole in the grip so you could get at the setscrew, you could
glue it on for
good!
