Hey all. . .
There are sure to be flames to follow this one, BUT. . .
I am running a hands-free operation on my 706Mk2G with a hodge-podge system:
Headset/Mic combo: Labtec Axis 302 PC (Yes PC) headset & boom mic ($14.95 at
Best Buy)
I have a $4.95 foot switch from RS rigged into a homebrew connector to trip
the PTT.
I bought a 100BaseT patch cable, and cut it in half so I wouldn't need an
RJ45 crimper, this is plugged into the 8pin modular mic jack on the back.
Figure $25 (.10 for solder??) a few spare parts and you have a really decent
setup. . .
I have received pretty decent audio reports with this setup. Its about
$100+ cheaper than the Heil version, plus I can use the stero headset to
listen to music as well. . .
The hands free operation really helps out in the shack, I can be typing away
at the logging program and not miss a beat should the conversation swing my
way.
