[Icom] ICOM IC-2KL Amplifier

Hi Peter,

It is possible that some of the refrigerant has leaked out of the heat
dissipator (cooling assembly). I would suggest taking a close look at the
area where the power-transistor cooling blocks join the two copper pipes to
which the heat-dissipator fins are attached. There may also be a hairline
crack with the point where one of the fins is attached to the pipes, or at
the tips of the pipes.

If there is any such damage, it may have occurred in shipping due to a drop
or other mechanical shock. Was the IC-2KL properly packed?

As far as repairs are concerned, about the only hope is to try to find a
"hangar-queen" 2KL RF unit. Icom may be able to order a new cooling assembly
from Osaka, but this is doubtful as the 2KL has been discontinued since the
mid-90's.

Hi Gang:

I need some help here regarding this amp. I received one via UPS and
noticed some oily substance on the packing material. Further checking
revealed the same oily substance inside the unit. I did check C-3 but
that is dry and does not seem to be the culprit. I estimate the fluid
loss by about 1 cc or so. Any ideas ?. I do not have a schematic and
would appreciate any help in obtaining one. Also, are there any 10 meter
kits out there for sale? I would like to have one for MARS use.
