My IC-751 is about 20 years old now and still has the original battery
in it. I decided I would change the lithium cell but clearly didn't
want to risk losing the program memory. I'm sure others have thought
of this "outboard battery" idea but I though I would document it for
others to take a look at. This method taps into the RAM board with a
pair of diode ORed lithium cells so that in the future one cell can be
replaced at time and greatly reduces the risks associated with
unsoldering the cell from the RAM board. Further, this mod leaves the
still good battery on the RAM board and supplying power during the
modification.
