I think it is likely a component (or components) such as a  cap. The CRT
does have a bit of burn in and so I was interested in looking at EBay. But I
do not know quite how to determine if one from EBay will be a correct fit.

That may be the best approach. When I  called them they did not seem
interested in repairing the display unit but replacing it. However, I did
not push them on it. Perhaps I could remove the display unit and send it.
This would save on shipping and spare the radio the strain of the trip. Of
course I would ask Icom first. They may think it is a bad idea.
