Only to those of us who might have to listen to his signal and to those of
us who hate to see good equipment abused and to those of us who feel that
we should share our experience and knowledge with those who might be
unaware of the consequences of what they propose.
No, we have no "right" to interfere - it is his radio. But he is not
operating in a vacuum and his actions will affect others.
I don't think that I read anyone say "You cannot or must not change that
radio!" That would be the statement of a "policeman" as you imply.
What I did read was well-intentioned and accurate technical advice
describing the consequences of making such a modification. In addition, if
the radio is still in warranty and the result of an attempt to increase
power output results in damage or failure, a warranty repair might be
compromised.
Andy is presumably capable of making his own decisions, and I doubt that
any posting on a reflector would be likely to cause or prevent his doing
anything.
No flame, Diverjim, but I think that you are branding us with a false
label, just because we made negative recommendations instead of telling him
which pot to adjust.
