The 745's will suffer from the plastic trimmer cap syndrome in time (vco's 
go crazy etc). this is especially evident in the 745's with the internal 
power supply (heat is aparently an accelerator of the problem).  If the 
lithium ram memory battery fails the radio forgets that it is a radio and 
has to return to its maker for reincarnation.  Roberto Nardo makes a 
replacement board that is user replaceable and works good as a permanent fix.

For its time this radio is quite good, has one of the best noise blankers 
around, a good recevier a bit high on phase noise but that never bothered 
me until I used better (much better) radios.
If you have the chance to "test drive" the radio for a few hours most of 
the problems will be quite evident if they exist.
