[Icom] Icom Pro II and some fair objective feedback...

Steve:
I have operated a FT1000D and the fan noise in a PROII is not any louder and
may be quieter than the 1000D. The specs show the 1000D to have a better
receiver but in my actual operating I could not tell the difference. I was
A-B 'ing my ProII and a friends 1000D that I was thinking of trading, but he
decided not to. Maybe in cw and phone contest conditions there might be some
differences. I only work rtty contests. The PROII would make a great 2nd
rig, but you can also buy used 1000D for around 2400. Probably the only
reason I might like the PROII over the 1000D is the scope and the fact it
has FSK not afsk. There are alot of filter choices with the PROII because of
dsp but it's like satellite or cable tv....you only use a few of them :-).

from folks who have owned FT1000D's and not MP's or Mark whatever series
which to me are not in the same league with the older but better FT1000D, no
offense just my opinion after owning MP's and the more expensive over done
Mark series.

I am looking at trying another radio for a backup or second radio for the
shack. I hear so many pros and cons to this very expensive radio and that
the fan noise is very loud on this radio according to QST's recent review
and the 6 meter performance is not that great and that the radio was not
much on the low bands as far as receive goes. Not all of this came from QST
but from different sources who have owned them and not been real impressed
for the price. Also I run an Alpha 91B and will the Pro II work with that
amp without having to build or buy a relay box like the older Pro?? I would
appreciate any and all feedback from hams who have owned the FT1000 or
FT1000D and now own the Pro II and what they think and why they switched. I
do not consider the cheaply made and plastic menu driven FT1000MP and Mark
series and good comparison so please only former FT1000/D owner who are now
Icom Pro/Pro II owners. No offense intended, just want to be fair in getting
an apple to apple comparison, thanks and 73, Steve, NX1G

Have a great day, because if you don't someone else will!!!
