[Icom] Heil Goldline & VOX

I get around the mic gain problem by running my Goldline and ProSet HM-5
mics through a Behringer MX602A mixer/EQ unit that Bob Heil recommended.
The 602 has two pre-amp'ed mic channels which provide more than enough gain
with the PRO for the Goldline and other dynamic mics that I have tried.
Plus, the EQ allows the mic sound to be adjusted over a somewhat wider
range than the built-in TX EQ in the PRO, although that alone is adequate.

I have used the PRO VOX with other mics and found it adequate. I feed the
output of the 602 mixer into the transmit audio input on the ACC1 connector
and thus VOX is inoperative. I have not tried it with the Goldline alone.

I have heard Bob recommend increasing the mic gain within the PRO by
turning on COMP up to about the 10-12 o'clock position. This will give
about 5-10 db of compression which will be noticed more as an increase in
audio level than a "compressed" sound. Try it with a 3 o'clock mic gain
setting and a 12 o'clock COMP setting and see how VOX works with that
combination.
