[Icom] 735 Tuning problems

My IC-735 is having problems changing frequency.
Most of the time the VFO will not work so I use
COMMANDER software. to change freq. When the
VFO does work, tuning up or down in freq doesn't 
matter, the freq always goes up. Another problem
is when I put the speech compressor on and
begin to talk the rig Locks in TX but does not
TX. I have to turn off the rig to get back to RX.

I talked to a tech at Icom, he said on the 735 
that there is no way to reset the cpu, has anyone
found a way to do that? 
From what I have found online, it is a problem
with either or both the rotary encoder and/or
logic unit. Am I correct in this?
