This sounds like audio distortion, one of the 'idiosyncracies' mentioned in the QST reviews of both the Pro and Pro II. On my Pro, it's caused by excessive 5th order harmonic distortion. It makes the CW note sound 'flutey', like a train whistle. This is the kind of thing that if you notice it, it will bug you until you fix it. I use an outboard audio lowpass filter (QF-1A) to clean it up.
