The resistor in question (R236, 27K) is on the Main board near IC22(speech
amp/vox amp), and is in parallel with and directly adjacent to capacitor
C210 (470p). These are SURFACE MOUNT type parts. I hope this helps.

If you ever happen to locate this resistor kindly let
us know. That would be really useful.
 
I swapped my HS706 with the stock mic (the rubber ring
removed)last night and managed to work some Dx. All OK
minus the punch that I would have got out of my 706.
Goes to say that removing the rubber disc helps a bit.
