Hello Ray and the Group,
This is one of the most intelligent and "sensical" approaches I have ever
seen. It should be considered common sense to follow this method when
selecting a piece of gear that you may spend thousands of dollars for, but
people seem to frequently get lost in the subjective nature of equipment
performance. Everyone has different expectations - and therefore different
opinions - for any given piece of equipment they may evaluate.
I have only a little bit of Yaesu experience, and it is not good. Most of my
shack is comprised of "Classic" ICOM gear, but there are a couple Yaesu
pieces as well. I recently had to make an email inquiry to VS regarding the
availability of a part for one of my Yaesu rigs, and after 6 weeks with no
response I sent a follow-up email. Two weeks more elapsed, and then all I
received from them was a nice HTML email with their logo, and instructions
on how to make parts inquiries - by telephone. It was the e-mail equivalent
of a "form letter" and left me unsatisfied. All I had wanted was to find out
if a part was still available, not to place an order. I am sure it would
have taken seconds to look it up and return the information to me, but no
one took the initiative to be helpful.
I have to include this bit of experience to decide whether I will invest a
large amount of money in a Yaesu product - whether it is the best radio in
the world or not. There are a lot more factors in the purchasing decision
than just the rig's features and price. Manufacturers need to leverage more
of their marketing dollars into customer service - the best sales tool there
is.
