Hi Roy,
Those are different "animals". The FT-1000D was an excellent radio, but I
would prefer an IC-781. The 781 has a quieter synthesiser (its reciprocal
mixing noise "numbers" are 5 dB better than those of the 1000D. The 781 also
has the spectrum scope.
The K2 is a tremendous little radio. It has one of the strongest front ends
around.
The major down-side of the IC-781 is its power-supply heat problem, although
this can be minimised by dropping the mains voltage to 100 ~ 105V. The
IC-781 also delivers an initial RF power spike of up to 200W to the load,
due to excessively long ALC attack time. There is a mod to correct this
phenomenon, which can cause grid-overcurrent trip in some amplifiers.
Cheers for now, 73, Happy New Year,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

QC issues aside,
(Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?)
OK, if we can get past the quality issue (which would probably turn me off
from getting a MkV anyway), what about performance?
How about a Pro2 versus a used 1000D, or K2 (or is that going too far into
the "apples and oranges" direction)?
TIA

Hello out there!
Well I know this is not the appropriate plece
to put a question like this but perhaps any of
you has compared the Pro II to FT1000 MP MKV (Field).
I consider to buy a new rig and do hesitate shat to
buy. Today I use an ICOM 765 teogether with the
IC2KL and the AT-500. Those works nice together but
I miss a separate receiver.
Do you hva any experiences or advise, I will appreciate
those very much.
Working mainly DX and contests on CW and SSB but also
enjoy a ragshew now and then.
Best 73 and a Happy New Year to all of You de
Ken / SM7CQY
