Taking out the disc in the mic didn't do much. ICOM has
a Tech Note to change a resistor in the 706, but I couldn't
find it, even with the schematic diagram. I found me an
eight-pin mic plug and a 4-inch piece of RJ-45 cable with
a plug on it, and made me an adapter which would accomodate
any of the ICOM mic's that I have here. Later on I got
a free Heil mic with the "G", but I haven't needed to try
that yet. I'm happy with the adapter. Also, look at ICOM's
spec sheet on microphones and you'll note that they have
a wide range of output levels. Go for a loud one.
