And it is sorta fundamental in the way speakers operate in enclosures
that a minimum volume of "air" is usually required for proper damping
of the speaker cone motion, etc. So, don't think that you were ripped
off to get a box filled largely with air! <:}
I have a pair of large Klipsch speakers, each with two 15" woofers and
mid-range and "tweeter-range" horns, and the airspace they contain
was expensive indeed! And I had to furnish my own air! <:}
