[Icom] ProII IF output connection

Maybe I am missing your point or objective, Richard, but if I recall
correctly the SM230 combines a linear time-domain oscilloscope function
with a form of spectrum analyzer.

As you know, the Spectrum Scope already performs the first of these
functions in arguably much better fashion than could the SM230.

I use a conventional 20-Mhz dual trace scope with my PRO, monitoring the
receive audio and transmit audio signals on one trace and the r-f output
envelope on the other. Together with the Spectrum Scope, I have complete
frequency- and time-domain examination of station operation.

I would strongly suggest that you NOT attempt to bring out any sort of "IF"
signal from the PRO. As a DSP IF receiver, its architecture is far removed
from the sort of receiver that the SM230 was designed to work with.
Entering or even tapping the signal stream with an outboard device might
not be the best thing for the PRO. I am certain that this could be done,
but I personally would never attempt any such modification on what is
entirely an SMT radio.

The linearity of the receiver permits you to examine the audio output
signal with a conventional scope, or perhaps the SM230 with an audio input,
and tell about as much about the signal as you could from examining the IF
signal.

For some time, I used a HeathKit Monitor Scope with my Heathit receivers,
monitoring the IF signals. Apart from being "interesting" there was very
little to be seen that could be used diagnostically.

If I have totally missed the point of your question, please try again -
this is the first time that I can recall reading about someone wanting to
do this with a PRO.
