Bill,
That's life in the high-tech world. When I bought my Yaesu Quadra, I had to
ensure that it was a Rev. 2 (with the upgraded controller board) rather than
a Rev. 1 version. Upgrade path? Wazzat?
In July 2000, I bought an IC-756Pro. Almost 2 years later, I bought a Pro
II. Did have a minor issue on the Pro - a bad Dual Watch pot - but Icom
Canada replaced the whole front-panel assembly, and I got a display rev.
level upgrade into the bargain. Upgrade path from Pro to Pro II? Buy a Pro
II, keep or unload the Pro as desired.
Last December I bought a Dell PIII/1GHz laptop. Now, a P4/1.6 version is
available for less than I paid for my PIII. Upgrade path? You gotta be
kiddin'!
Board the high-tech train, fasten your seatbelt and reach for the Dramamine.

Yeah, fat chance! But, consider yourself lucky if a bad LCD is all you have
experienced. There are a thousand or so hams out there who bought the
original IC PW1 ( a great amp) with an equally great price, who got nothing
from ICOM when it decided that there was something not quite right about the
design of same and modified it in early production. When many of us
requested the mod free, or replacement, we got no tea and certainly no
sympathy.

| If there was a "bad batch" of LCD's put into radios by ICOM, I think it
would
| behoove them to replace them FREE OF CHARGE. They would generate
tremendous
| goodwill within the ham community if they supported what they sell by
replacing
| DEFECTIVE parts. On the other hand, maybe they just don't care about
serving the
| ham community and all they want to do is to SELL RADIOS. What a shame.
