Looks pretty good, wonder if Alinco has setup a price yet on it?

I don't see anything in the documentation, but figured I'd ask here to
confirm. Is it correct that this radio does not have a HearClear/Companding
type feature on 900 MHz? Around here in New England, many of us have used
the HC on the MSF5000 repeaters and motorola radios (Kenwoods call it
companding). Some feel that it eliminates some of the rapid flutter common
on 900. When you use a radio not programmed for HC on a HC repeater, or the
other way around, the audio will sound quite poor.

One HC repeater owner has actually said that he will "ban" the use of these
Alinco radios on his repeater if it does not have this feature. I think this
is a bit extreme, since I'm more on the non HC side of the fence, but still,
I suppose he has a point.

Have to agree with you on that one. I dispise HEARCLEAR with a passion! I
know of NO repeaters on the West coast using it. To my ear, it makes audio
sound "phony". That being said, to each his own! If someone likes it,
that's fine with me, and if they want to "ban" alinco's from use on their
system, good for them! No harm , no foul! But, when you start running
people off of repeaters because of the type of radios they are using, you
will begin to "disenchant" users and in the long run, that's not healthy for
an "open" repeater. It will end up being a closed system with the few die
hards who love Hearclear.
We run a full 3KHz deviation (audio + PL) on all our Moto repeaters around
here and the audio is excellent! One must remember that so many of the 900
radios, especially Moto's, have very low mic gain and most people
underdeviate their radios and cause the problems of excess background static
and "pickett fencing". Actually, if Hearclear could be made to work on TX
only, it would be a great idea fopr the "quiet talkers" out there, since it
is nothing more than a speech processor! So far, the Maxtrac is the only
radio I have been able to make that idea work on. It's the sound of
HEARCLEAR's RX "decompression" that I can't stand to listen to!

Just my opinion, I'm sure there are many conflicting ones and no disrespect
intended!
