In the Aug. 3 issue of the Jasper Newsboy, Billy Ted Smith (emergency
management coordinator for Jasper County) is quoted on statements concerning
the "digital mandate" from the federal government,.
His statements could have been farther from the truth, but not (by) much;
http://www.fcc.gov/narrowbanding has the correct information: "On Jan. 1,
2013, all public safety and business industrial land mobile radio systems
operating in the 150-512 MHz radio bands must cease operating using 25 kHz
efficiency technology, and begin operating using at least 12.5 kHz
efficiency technology." (NOTE digital is NOT required!)
The Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) and similar
organizations are spreading false information and using taxpayer money with
no regard to the truth or what they spend in grants.
By the way, the digital mandate is from the state of Texas, which requires
APCO P25, which is an outdated digital mode, to be specified in order to
receive grants (a.k.a.: taxpayer money). Another governmental rip-off and
waste of our money!
