We requested, and received a couple of government coupon for DTV tuners. I
checked at the local Wal-Mart and they had two brands. I checked the
Internet and it said the RCA had better weak signal reception so I opted for
those. We put one on the bedroom TV and I installed the 2nd one on my girls
TV.
I have an "in the attic" LARGE tv antenna which I have connected to the
entire house. PBS was the only station that had a signal lower than 50%. A
little antenna adjusting (thanks to a pair of walkie talkies and the built
in signal strength meter in the DTV converter) and we no longer have any
problems with PBS.
We purchased a 42" 1080P LCD TV a couple of weeks ago. I have removed ALL
of the analog channels with the exception of our internal channel 30 that
shows one of the security cameras I have set up looking outside.
Other than my total disgust in the lack of HIGH DEFINITION and widescreen
programming, everything is working just fine.
My wife keeps switching back to ANALOG TV in the bedroom, but when they stop
broadcasting in ANALOG that problem will take care of itself. ;o)
So to summarize; I have had 0 problems receiving and watching Digital TV for
the last few months. No rain, sun, fog, air, nitrogen, fade

Subject: [HoustonHam] Digital TV - too technical for public??
I have read the article and my deduction is - digital TV won't work in
Texas!
The technician mentioned in the article states that in his experience it
won't work when "...especially when it's windy or hot and sunny..."
He describes "normal" everyday weather in TX!
But I was under the impression that they not only going digital but are
changing "channels" to UHF! And since UHF has not been the "network"
channels the antenna issue would be valid but for wrong reason! I guess it
would be too technical for the general public!
Also I do not buy the "all or nothing" signal theory explanation either.
Digital supposed to be relatively immune to signal strength as long as it
meets some minimal level.
But if you are on the edge of this minimal strength - then you are out of
luck.
Back to ham radio - anybody experimenting with digital TV ?? Or is it too
early??
