Chris that gin pole they were using was awesome in itself.
Maybe it was me but I would have thought at that height it would be more windy than it looked. They had hats on but sure didn't look like much wind?

On that show last nite what was the height of the transmitting antenna?

The view from up there even watching it on TV was incredible.

Thanks,
Brian

You're welcome! I happened to get it from one of my mail list I run earlier in the day..The one NBC showed was called Towers Dawgs..and a lot of the tower crews across the US blasted it as not the real story and was more about the drinking and relationship between the one guy and the female manager.if that happened on a REAL tall tower crew, both would be fired in a second..The one on NG last night was beautiful!!! And REAL...the TV (and FM) top mounted antennas have about 42 or more bolts holding them to the top plate...and the center conductor of the "coax" which is 6 in rigid line is connects to the antenna using a part called a bullet..looks likes an egg but has a teflon center washer about ½-1in thick, then each side of the bullet has springy fingers that connect to a center button at the end..the fingers mate fit inside the center conductor (or innard) which in the 6 inch rigid is about 2+in copper tubing!! Gotta be the right side for 50ohms and gotta handle 150KW power from the TV transmitter.

  Have a safe Thanksgiving!!

Chris thanks for the email about the show.

  That was real interesting.

Sort of reminded me about the show couple months ago on NBC I think it was about people who work on cell phone towers.

Can't recall the name of the show now, but it was pretty interesting.

  Happy Thanksgiving to you!

National Geographic has a show right now on that shows a tower rigger crew working on a 2000ft TV tower...WDLT-46..will looks them up because I DON'T think they're at 2000ft..but its interesting...especially to those of us who have been up there (many times).
