Just an update to those interested:
The repeater freqs will be 52.15 in/53.15 out...it will have PL of 100Hz BUT
if you run carrier and have a FULL quieting signal in the rcvr, it will let
you in..PL will just give you MAX range but those without PL will not be
locked out...you just gotta be strong! :)
The repeater is consisting of Midland LMR Syntech II radios...the rcvr is a
70-0500 (actually a 71-0150 out of an actual lowband Midland repeater) and
the transmitter is a 70-0520 100watt radio. Mods are being done to pass flat
audio through so it will sound just like simplex (as any repeater I have
built does). Nice thing about using the Midlands are :
1) Instant redundancy...both radios are programmed and modified the same and
thus if the xmtr or rcvr dies, a mere swap of the cables will have the rptr
back on.
2) The Noise Blanker in the Midlands, one of the best in the Land Mobile
Radio business, works on channel..unlike a GE MSTR II or Motorola MICOR
style which is actually a second front end on another freq. THUS the Midland
can run on a duplexer with no problem (a legacy GE or Motorola would not be
able to use its NB in a duplex mode...) Also a true Signal to Noise voter is
in hand and satellite receivers are being looked at for future plans.
Also, if anyone in the BPT area is interested in joining us on 6, I have
some extra 6m FM radios available for loan use. You will have to provide
your own antenna but a Larsen NMO-150 works just fine on 6 FM....I have some
Midland STIIs and a rare Comtronix FM200 six meter FM synthesized
rig.....The Midlands have all repeater and simplex channels in them so you
wont miss anything (unless they have PL...PL is in the Midlands but must be
preprogrammed per channel...but an external encoder can be wired to it for
changing PL with any channel...the FM200 does NOT have PL but again, an
external encoder is easy to wire in). A plan to add an AM input for those
with the old Gonset and other 6AM rigs will be done in the future (since you
can slope detect FM on the AM rcvrs in those rigs)...
