The IARU Region II, Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF)
championships will be held in Bastrop TX this year on May 8-10. The
meet is being organized by Ken, WM5R & Jen, W5JEN, Harker and is
sponsored by the Houston Orienteering Club. ARDF is actually the more
accurate term for what we traditionally call foxhunting
http://ka5cvh.com/radio/ardf.htm.
Thursday 8 May will be a practice day where you can take your gear and
get familiar with the terrain at Bastrop State Park. Friday 9 May
will be the 2 meter competition and Saturday 10 May will be the 80
meter competition. Even if you do not have the equipment for the 80
meter portion you can still compete on the 2 meter event. If you are
uncomfortable with your DF skills and or your equipment I can arrange
to provide some additional training on the practice day. In the mean
time there are a number of internet resources including some games
that "simulate" what its like. As a final note pass this along to
your clubs.
Ken is getting closer to a finalized budget and registration cost for
the 2008 USA ARDF championships. One thing that would be very helpful
at this point is to have a firmer idea of who is planning to attend.
If you are planning to attend, please email Ken directly so he can add
you to his running list of expected attendees. Thanks!
