I have the 706 MkIIG in my pickup truck. It's only used on HF as I 
don't go on VHF (or UHF) at all. Will I ever? Perhaps not as I'm a 
vacuum tube (boatanchor nut) & I'd have to build the tube type 
VHF/UHF gear myself. Don't have the time.....
