[HoustonHam] Elves & More Bike Ride ARES Communications

The Elves & More bike ride is our main Montgomery County ARES training activity for the year. It is on Oct 8th this year. Please make yourself available on that day. We need more people this year. As usual once we do a good job the event organizers ask for even more help.

The ride starts and finishes at Montgomery High School in Montgomery out 105 west of Conroe.

This event provides bikes for kids in the Houston area, including Montgomery County, that normally can not obtain them. This year kids affected by Katrina will be included.  This is a very worthy cause.

Equipment needs are a 25w rig and gain antenna. An HT will __NOT__ work. I need 6 hams with rigs in cars to work rest stops. I need 7 hams with rigs that can be put into medical and supply vehicles. The command trailer will need 3 hams to work it but no rigs since the trailer has them. All these positions are all day slots except for a few of the early rest stops. However, if you can only work part time I can swap people in and out of rest stops and some positions during the day.

Generally, the day is 6am to 5pm with some earlier arrivals for supply vehicles and the command trailer. Later rest stops can come in an hour or so later.
