I just joined a couple of days ago myself. Live in northwest Houston, don't 
belong to any ham clubs & like boatanchor (heavy vacuum tube stuff) from 
the 40's & 50's. The only solid state rig I own is the Icom IC706MKII (with 
a Bugcatcher antenna) in my Toyota pickup.

Find out where the Brazos Valley Amateur Radio Club is located. Otherwise 
use the ARRL web page to clubs in your area...
