Thanks for the quick reply, and also for the attached data sheet!

~ They have a quite high plate impedance thus a need for higher than usual
plate Voltage for it's power level making it a bad choice to replace a pair
of 6146's or such in older equipment.
   They do operate at higher frequency than 6146s and such.

I noticed the high plate voltage and low plate current right away. On the
AMforever forum Carl KM1H says that at lower voltages they aren't very
efficient, and start working well at about 1500V. 

My application is a bit odd, in that I'm thinking of using them in a linear
amp to give a significant boost to the AM signal from a Viking 1 on the low
bands. Inefficient I know, but since I live on the north coast of California
my shack is always cool to cold (;->)...The linear route seems the cheapest
too, except possibly for the power supply.

Received wisdom is that you need around 300 watts out to be able to rag chew
on 40 meters and lower using AM.
