Okay, I see.

So, currently these old machines are connected to a phone modem of some 
kind?

I would think the easiest thing to do is make a RS-232 or USB interface to 
the TTY machine and run that into a PC. The PC already has the 
LAN/ethernet/wireless/internet connection stuff in it and just has to buffer 
the data and dribble it out the TTY machine.
