John,

I use a lot of header pins.
For one pin ports solder two or three pins into the board and use a connector 
with only a wire on the pin you need.

The wire out of computer chassis are working good for this these days. The 
LED ones have a connector on both ends and can be cut down to do two sets of 
wires off the PC board.

The pins can be extracted from the plastic with a small point to push the 
little retainer clip back into the connector.

You can pick the lead up some times with the LEDs as computer swap meets.
A set is like a $1.00 or less.
