I discovered a web page which is a great tutorial for alternators:
<http://istconnect.com/anzoria/sitetops/energy/alternator/alternator.htm>
It looks like a 75 Amp alternator can simply be rewired and re"regulated"
to provide 50VDC (or any voltage from 12 to 140VDC) and give the 1000 watt
capacity which I need.
My further scheme is to then have it all automatic: both charging the car
battery AND powering the amplifier, but one at a time....
That is, to use a relay or two to switch my vehicle's alternator from
charging the battery to powering my 500 Watt mobile amp.
--Thinking that I can have the auto battery fairly charged when driving
along and switch to xmit by moving the alternator electrically from
charging the car battery into this additional circuitry, ...and the car
will keep running on its battery power for a bit while the amp gets the 50
Volts at up to 1000 watts.
This is not nearly the depth of project I was thinking about to add
another alternator to the engine which is specially wound for 50 VDC.
