[HomeBrew] Homebrew Equiv. of Ameritron ALS-500M?

The Ameritron ALS-500M does use 13.6 instead of the 50v as used by the
equivalent ALS-600. It ALS-600 has a 50 volt powers supply that comes with
it.

4 batteries gives 50v but takes up some space (under hood - not in today's
cars, floor in back seat - dangerous for hydrogen or in an accident, trunk
in bolted down battery boxes - probably O.K.). Charging them can be done
with four little "maintenance" chargers fed by a single inverter in your car
(unless you are planning on HOURS of continuous operation). This will run
your battery down if you are not driving while the amp batteries are
charging, turn off the inverter when you drive into the garage

Use 12v power transistors instead of the 50 volt ones, probably more
expensive but lacking the problems. The ALS500M puts out 500-600 watts, or
just find a ALS500M (with a guarantee) at a hamfest or on ebay. It is an
excellent amp. I use it for my main amp in the shack, heavy wires to 2
batteries in boat battery boxes which also serve as battery backup for my
station then backed up by generators.

I would like to ask everyone's help in deciding about homebrew amps for
mobile.

I think the HomeBrew mobile amp in June 2006 QST page 39, etc., would be
great if I could get my auto 13.6 batteries up to the necessary 50 volts
for this amp.

I guess Ameritron uses a supply voltage of 13.6 for their 500 watt mobile
amps, though.

Is there any homebrew/DIY equivalent offered of the Ameritron ALS-500M?

Any ideas?
