At these low voltage levels and couple amps of current you have to be 
careful of voltage drops in the rectifiers.  Everything you think you've 
gained you'll lose it in their voltage drop.  Schottky diodes may help a 
little.  You're also going to need a LOT of Mfds to charge up to any peak 
voltage but then you may lose it in the winding IR drop because of the high 
current peaks.  Sounds easier to get a small 6.3v/2a filament xfmr.  Or, if 
there's room on the core, add another winding on top of the others and put 
it in series with the 5v one.  You won't need a lot of voltage isolation for 
filament use.
