Hello to all on list.
I have already sent this message to the Heathkit list, but since it
involves homebrew, I thought I'd involve this group as well.
I have built an interface to use my SB-620 / Hamscan with my Icom 706 MKIIG
The basic building blocks include a crystal controlled 5.76 MHz oscillator,
(chosen since I had the crystal, and the math works out) This feeds a
double balanced diode mixer, the other input of which is the 9.01 MHz IF of
the Icom 706.
The resulting 3.25 Mhz and other products are sent through a 3.25 MHz
bandpass filter , and then on to the SB-620.
The SB-620 L2 is adjusted to get the 3.25 MHz pip centred.
Works fantastic with a signal generator set to the IF of 9.01 Mhz, My big
question to all you Heathkit / Icom 706 owners, where should I tap off the
IF in the Icom??
I think it should be near the output of FI561, maybe at R513 or R512?
If anyone on list has the schematic for the 706 I would love to hear your
ideas.
When I get the circuit actually working with my radio, I will post it on my
website for all you SB-620 owners to consider. This may be the way to keep
the SB-620's up and running without the never ending search for obsolete
coils.
