Sorry about the empty "reflection".
I have an enormous amount of nostalgia involved with the 6L6 MOPA
transmitter. Mine was the 6AG7 / 6L6 version from the ARRL Handbook. The
rig was a loaner from my Elmer. He told me "Don't worry if the 6L6 burns
out. We're pushing it kinda hard. I think a 6L6 is just as good as an 807
any day." I didn't understand until much later that he put 500 volts on
the
plate of the 6L6! It was a metal tube, ran hotter than a $2 pistol and
never burned out. If you want to try that, do so at your own risk, or at
least the risk of a fried 6L6.
100 mA is probably enough for a CW transmitter if you don't key down for
too
long. 200 mA would be more conservative. The 520 volt CT transformer with
silicon rectifiers and a good filter capacitor of 100 uF or more should
give
you at least 300 volts on the plate. At 100 mA plate current, that's 30
watts in and you should get about 15 to 20 watts out at least on 80 and 40
meters. Less on the higher bands.
Very 73,
