Ed & Ron,
I have two squirrel cage blowers that are intended for 4-1000As.
Yes they make noise, BUT - they do NOT whine.
The airflow and the back pressure requirements inherently dictate that
you WILL have noise. BUT there should be NO whine, and 30 seconds wind
up tells me the blower PROBABLY means the bushings most likely
DESPERATELY need lubrication.
IF you are NOT using air sockets and chimneys, you can use high speed
muffin fans. My LK-500ZB uses one with high and low speed control to
cool a pair of 3-500Zs. I've been running this amp for around 4 years
or so. The airflow is MORE than adequate - BUT - this amp does NOT use
air sockets and chimneys.
I ALSO have a "dual" output blower for a 4-1000A. It is a LOT quieter.
I'll have to try and get the part number.
The "singles" are Dayton Type 2C610s. The data plate states, "Oil Every
6 Months With SAE 20". There are two small holes, one on each end of the
motor to allow for putting a "couple" drops of oil on EACH bushing.
