[HomeBrew] homebrew WX radar

From time to time over the past couple of decades, I've seen mention in
various sources that some hams have successfully home brewed limited
capability WX radar units. In the mid 80's there was even a rough how-to
article in Ham Radio magazine about this subject, based on a 10 GHz
Gunnplexer.

Several times in the past I have attempted to contact hams whose email
or postal addresses have popped up regarding this topic, but I have
never had any responses by anyone who actually personally worked on the
concept and either couldn't make a go if it, or had some success. With
the advent of the Web, searches have always ended up as dead ends, a
mention here and there that it has been done, but never any names or
specifics.

Because I have zero experience at frequencies above VHF, I have always
been hesitant to sink a lot of time and money into the idea without at
least having a few starting-point pointers and knowing for sure that it
is possible to make it work.

Does anyone on list know anyone who has ever done anything like this,
either on or off list, that might be willing to exchange emails about
their experiences?

Thanks in advance, &

73,

Mike, WB5MYY
