I've been thinking for some time of building a 'scope clock, motivated
by this web site:
http://www.cathodecorner.com/sc100.html
Although that design uses an analog circle generator, I thought I'd see
what I could do with a fast PIC and a pair of DAC's.
Ideally I'm looking a couple of 12-bit DACs with a few uS settling time.
There should be some way to latch both DACs simultaneously. This can use
extra h/w if necessary. A dual-channel DAC would be handy, but if it's
cheaper to use two single units, that would be OK.
Really would like these to be DIP or similar. Not set up here for SMD.
Budget is of course a major constraint; this is basically a junk-box
project.
If 12-bit DACs are prohibitive, I may try 10-bit DACs. Perhaps use a
high-resolution DAC to create the characters and a separate DAC to
position the origin of the cell, summing the two deflection voltages.
Sorry if this has been a bit of a ramble, it's early here :)
