Dear Ron and colleagues,
I agree that Morgan's books are well worth having.
May I recommend another series of wonderful books?
They are called, "The Boy Mechanic," by Popular Mechanics Press. These
were "antiques" back in the 50's when I was a kid. There are 4 in the
series. Two are currently listed on eBay. Try to find ones with as
near-perfect covers as you can. The cloth covers of these large books are
in rich colors of reddish-orange, green, blue and purple, depending on
which volume you have. The are deeply embossed in gold or/or white and, in
a word, are simply beautiful! Book 1 was published in 1913 and Book 4 was
in the early 20's as I recall.
After searching many years to replace the set from my youth, I
finally contacted a local rare book dealer who located a pretty fine set
for me. I got a bargain at $125 for the set of 4 back in the 80's. I
would not sell them for 10 times that amount today, honestly. Looking
through them brings history to life. The lithograph drawings alone are
worth the look for me :)
I have no affiliation with the eBay ones that I am referencing
here. I would also recommend sources like abebooks or used.addall to find
these or the Morgan books.
eBay Item #'s =3597379970 & 3597379999
