i use a product called "twin etch" available from N A P A stores to clean 
metal parts. you can watch it happen it is so fast. make sure you do it near 
water to rinse with. read the bottle. vinegar will do some also but much slower. 
white vinegar works best(clean your coffe machine and toilets also) brass, 
steel, white metal,copper all shine up nice with any of these chems. do some 
testing to get familiar with how they work.   regards N2VZD
