All:
Been reading the reports from all the general consensus seems to be mixed. I was trying to ascertain whether I was going mad at my decision or was it sound (that is, to powdercoat with these guys or not). I have done personal powdercoating in the past but this time, circumstances limit me from doing the powdercoating job myself but here are my observations:
1) To prep the AT-1 cabinet, blasting the unit shouldn't run more than 30 minutes at most (figure the cost for labor shouldn't go more than $15 per hour at max).
2) Cost for a pint of the grey wrinkle/texture material shouldn't be more than $20-25 per pint or so (per the Hotcoat system in Eastwoods catalog).
3) Two years ago at another shop in another town, I had an Eddystone cabinet redone (with a rush order) for $55 to blast and put on a textured black finish.
4) I was eyeing the process for powdercoating and it didn't involve any phosphate coating process after the blast process.
5) The "80$" folks were the only powdercoaters in the area.
Hence, they were probably justified since they were the only game in town for several hundred miles and based on a lack of competition, were probably justified on trying to reap a healthy profit. Additionally, this seems to be hotrod country so there are big buck spenders in the area who would be willing to pay their prices so that only adds to their pricing. So there you go! Thanks. Cal, N6KYR.
