[HomeBrew] transformer help need

Hello
I have a plate  transformer 2500 v @1 amp  I am using it in a amateur 
amplifier.
It has a fabric over the windings on each end. The amp has set for many 
years. I fired it up tonight, after being on for aprox 1 hour, I heard 
something boiling.
I inspected and found that it was leaking black tar like fluid. after it 
cooled off it turned to a rubber like material. Do you have anyway to 
patch this maybe a kit i can fix it myself ?
Any help you can provide would be helpful.
