If by 'assigned', you're refering to numerical...
The way I've seen the ones I've dealt with numbered is:
(viewed from the _connection_ side of a 5-Pin DIN PLUG)

With there SOMEtimes being a 'phantom' pin (wire connector only,
no actual mating pin) in the center supporting a 'bar' from the
shell (shield) to Pin-2. Some conn don't have this, depends on
the mfgr.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going from memory here.
If by 'assigned' you're talking about signal usage, don't know.
