Bill,

The first IF in this radio is 3035 kc.  A crystal on either 2580 or 3490 
will convert that to the second IF of 455 kc, so either frequency will 
work.  Here are some reasons I can think of why your HQ-110C might have a 
3490 kc crystal instead of a 2580:

- A previous owner might have replaced a bad 2580 crystal with a 3490 
because it was available.

- The swap might have been made deliberately to avoid the second IF image 
response from 2150 kc (2580 minus 2150 equals 455).

- I'll defer to the Hammarlund experts on this, but maybe it came from the 
factory with a 3490 kc crystal.  My schematic for the HQ-110 (not a -C) 
shows a 3490 crystal.
