Five operators will activate two HF stations will from Friday, April 1 through Monday, April 4 in the vicinity of Kalaupapa airport and lighhouse. Kalaupapa is the rarest of counties on the air, as there's no permanent HF operations in Kalawao county. Operators may be permitted on Kalaupapa peninsula only by invitation. A QSO contact qualifies for: DX (KH6), WAS, County Hunters, Lighthouse. Since no direct VHF/UHF contacts are expected from Kalaupapa and repeater contacts do not qualify for awards, no VHF/UHF station is being arranged as each piece of equipment, food, supplies and trash must be air freighted in and out. The team consists of Bev AH6NF, Kimo KH7U, Jim WH6GS, Bart KH7C and Ron AH6RH. One of the objectives of the team is to hold a ARRL VE license exam for the four students who have been studying remotely via the Internet. We are hoping to upgrade one Technician to a General license during our stay. While this are no Wi-Fi or Cellular services available to the team at Kalaupapa, the team expects to be able to improvise and post updates to Facebook of current operating conditions.
