This report is for January 2015.

Since our last report we’ve lost 3 people. They are: Richard Hardy,
KH7HNL on 12/30/2014, Dr. John Vorbau, KH6HAM on 1/9/15 and Robert
Collester, Jr., KJ4HUH on 1/13/15.

Richard Hardy, KH7HNL, passed Away on Dec. 30, 2014. The memorial
service will be a fundraiser music and hula celebration of Richard Hardy
and Lynn Cook. It will be Sun. Feb 8^th 1700W to 2000w at the Lotus Room
on the 2^nd floor of the Lotus Honolulu Hotel located at 2885 Kalakeua
Ave. Paula Akana will serve as the emcee. Admission by donation and
there will also be a silent auction.

It is our sad duty to report the passing of Dr. John H. Vorbau, KH6HAM,
on Friday January 9, 2015 at Pali Momi Hospital in Aiea after an
extended illness. A celebration of life was held at Aiea United
Methodist Church on Saturday, January 24^th at 1000W. In his QRZ bio
John wrote “I have enjoyed amateur radio for over sixty years / Original
QTH Toledo, OH / California for 33 years (N6QGT) / Hawaii since 1999”
John was born in 1937 in Toledo, Ohio. His original degree was a BS
from University Of Toledo and his MD from Ohio State University. He was
a practicing Pediatrician among many other honors, a Fellow of the
American Academy of Pediatrics and his wife is a retired Navy Captain.
He was a member of EARC, KARC, CG (aux), ARRL, QCWA, Aiea United
Methodist Church and was a volunteer for the US Park service at the
Arizona Memorial. He was a regular operated KH6BB, the USS Missouri
museum station, and a member of the Battleship Missouri ARC. He is
survived by his XYL, Noeline. There is a picture on the ARRL Pacific
Section page. Dr. John Vorbau, KH6HAM, will be laid to rest at Punch
Bowl on Friday, April 10 at 1030W.

Robert Collester, Jr., KJ4HUH, passed away on January 13, 2015. His
services will be held Saturday January 24 at 91-1154 North Rd. Ewa
beach. The time will be 1000W.

We are now in 2015, Most club dues are payable. Check with your local
club. If it is not affiliated with ARRL please try and convince the
members to become an ARRL affiliated club. There are many benefits to
being an ARRL affiliated club.

The closest front of the lava flow has started and stopped several
times. At the moment it is stopped, however there are still breakouts
upslope and along the sides. Several businesses had packed up and
closed including Malama Market, Longs and Ace Hardware. Some have
reopened like Longs and Ace. The county is now removing some of the
lava rock in the transfer station and it is scheduled to re-open soon.
There is no longer viewing at the transfer station because of the
construction. Last month our new Governor, David Ige, came to visit the
regular Thursday update at the Pahoa High School Cafeteria. Remember
the Lava is still being fed into the system at the same rate so it has
to go somewhere.

Pahoa Road has been and is very congested and expected to get worse.
There is still heavy construction in addition to the extra school
traffic. As was reported earlier several schools combined to Keaau.
Your SM reports from personal experience that driving in Keaau and along
the bypass road in the afternoon has become very congested. Give (a lot
of) extra time to compensate for the extra-large traffic.

As was mentioned earlier, we are still looking for someone to be the
Section Youth Coordinator (SYC). It is a brand new, section-level ARRL
Field Organization appointment that is available and ready to be filled
as soon as we have someone for the position. Here are the appointment
guidelines that describe the requirements and responsibilities:
http://www.arrl.org/section-youth-coordinator__

If you are interested or know of someone who would be just right for the
job, let the SM know.

November 30 was the last official day of hurricane season in the Central
Pacific. If officially starts again on June 1 however storms can’t read
so bad weather can happen anytime.

We are going to try a little different and shorter approach to listing
the clubs. For more information on any club, go to the listed web
