I forgot to mention why I was going to work in the first message. I was
called in to help evacuate the 145 guests at the resort I work at that is
around 100 feet from the Pacific Ocean. I needed to get the latest
information to pass on to the other manager onsite. After we cleared out the
resort around 9:55PM HST I was able to get on both the HF and VHF nets to
keep abreast of the information after I got home around 10:25 PM. I was not
a happy camper and the following day after trying for 20 minutes I was able
to get into the link system because once again the same bunch would not let
the link open because of their constant jabbering on how great they were on
their emergency net the night before. I read them the riot act in a firm
voice and not a single one even apologized they were quite for about 3
minutes then it was back to "Well somebody got their panties in a bunch"
Sorry for the ranting but I think the Ham community in Hawaii needs to know
how not to operate during an emergency. The only good operation I heard out
of Hilo was from Harvey a county CD headquarters on 75 meters Good job
Harvey.
